Don Lapre
When I watched Don
Lapre's infomercials, they really excited me. He is such
an engaging speaker. He has to be a master marketer with
the infomercial. By the time I've finished watching, I'm
really ready to buy. He knows exactly which buttons to push,
and he has a great ability to get you to pick up the phone
and place an order.
Don Lapre knows
very well the old adage, "sell the sizzle not the steak".
He sells the sizzle in a masterful way. He is a very charming
person on screen. He walks you through the hype in such a
way that you feel your success is assured when it's over.
My problem came
after I received the course. He spent most of the time selling
other products. In fact, it's pretty much a long sales letter
to get further into my pocket. Also, many of the techniques
are out of date. Many are old and tired. Such as, government
auctions, 900 numbers, and reminder services.
The idea is to put
hundreds of thousands of small classified ads in newspapers
across the country advertising these things. While, it may
be possible these things still work, it's certainly not likely.
Things have change a great deal in marketing since the advent
of the internet. Online marketing has a whole lot more power
than the things Don is talking about.
One thing I don't
understand is how he gets his customers to give such nice
testimonials. It seems to me they are paid for.
I have even spoken
to customers about Lapre's course, and they fell the same
way. A real let down. |
